Sleep medicine

Our Sleep Center is focused entirely on sleep—a tremendously important component of good health! We take pride in our beautiful facility that uses the latest sleep medicine technology and the highest quality sleep diagnostic and treatment services available.

Side effects of sleep disorders

Sleep is very important for quality of life and for our body's recuperative powers. Sleep deprivation has been linked to increased inflammation in the body, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and other major health issues.

Decreased quality and quantity of sleep has also been shown to cause weight gain and weaken the immune system. During sleep our bodies repair, recharge and do the maintenance work necessary to keep us functioning properly.

Common sleep disorders

  • Insomnia
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Narcolepsy
  • Shift work disorder

Our sleep diagnostic services

Our specialists begin with an overall assessment of your general health. We ask specific questions about your current sleep habits and sleep history to better understand your specific issues and concerns.

Most patients begin with a sleep test known as a polysomnogram (PSG), which determines what stages of sleep you achieve and whether any sleep-related abnormalities are present while measuring your body functions, which may include:

  • Brain waves (electro-encephalogram, EEG)
  • Heart waves (electro-cardiogram,EKG)
  • Eye movements (electro-oculargram, EOG)
  • Limb movements (electo-myogram, EMG)
  • Breathing (nasal/oral)
  • Bands around the torso to measure chest and abdomen movements during breathing
  • Sensors on the legs to measure leg movements
  • Blood oxygen (pulse oximetry: SpO2)

Quality and comfort of a five-star hotel

We are able to conduct sleeping tests either during the day or overnight, where we perform an on-site sleep test to observe your sleep and monitor vital signs through our non-invasive technology to determine your specific sleep disorder.

To encourage sleep, our suites mirror the comfort found in a five-star hotel, while sleeping in plush, queen-sized beds. While relaxing, flip through hundreds of channels on the 50-inch flat screen TV; make use of free Wi-Fi; and admire the local landscape paintings from Steve Wilson, a well-known Bitterroot Valley artist. Each sleep suit is equipped with the most state-of-the-art, noninvasive monitoring equipment for snoring, brain activity and airflow.

All you have to do is relax, enjoy your "mini-vacation" and fall asleep so our skilled team can better understand your specific needs and sleep concerns.

Care plan

Based on your physician's order, prior to and or following the sleep study, arrangements may be made for a personal consultation with Ryan Nahapetian, MD, head of our Sleep Medicine Department. We integrate your sleep history with the findings from the sleep study to determine a diagnosis and make the appropriate treatment plan recommendations.

Insurance coverage

Overnight sleep testing is a procedure covered by most insurance plans, as well as Medicare. We can assist you by verifying your coverage and obtaining any pre-certification or authorization your insurance might require.

Visit the National Sleep Foundation website for more information and symptoms of sleep disorders. If you think you might have one of these conditions, we encourage you to talk to your doctor about your restless nights and available treatments.
